Radhika Vemula

Radhika Vemula’s journey began in the long shadow of caste-based marginalization. Her life had been shaped by discrimination, yet she carried forward with quiet determination. In 2016, her world was shattered when her son, Rohith Vemula, a Dalit PhD scholar, died after relentless institutional harassment. His death sparked nationwide outrage, but for Radhika, it was an intimate and irreversible loss.

From her grief emerged a deeper truth. No mother should lose a child to the violence of caste. Radhika transformed her mourning into movement and stepped into public life as a mother demanding accountability from systems that deny Dalit youth the right to dream.

Her voice, steady and unflinching, confronts both caste patriarchy and state power. She speaks not only for Rohith but for every young Bahujan life silenced by discrimination and institutional cruelty.

Today, Radhika Vemula stands as a symbol of resilience and justice. Her story shows that the fight for dignity is personal as much as political, rooted in love, grief, and a commitment to equality.
